How to Add Silhouette CAMEO Rhinestone Designs To Any Surface
The secret is to use this special heat-safe rhinestone adhesive called Bling Anything Thing from The Rhinestone World[1]. I've shown you the magic of this stuff before...like when I made a rhinestone skin for my CAMEO 2 or turned the Silhouette School logo into a rhinestone decal for my CAMEO 1.
But today I thought I'd go one step further and really put this stuff to the test - you know see how much it can really handle!
The great thing right now is The Rhinestone World has just introduced a Bling Anything Sample Kit[2] exclusively for Silhouette School readers!! It comes with everything you need to get started making rhinestone decals with your Silhouette CAMEO. The bundle includes Rhinestone flock, rhinestone transfer, a sheet of the Bling Anything material, rhinestones, a rhinestone brush and rhinestone tweezers.
This tutorial is going to assume you know the basics of creating rhinestone designs in Silhouette Studio and cutting rhinestone templates. If you don't - be sure to check out the Silhouette CAMEO rhinestone 101 tutorials[3].
A few things to remember when creating rhinestone decal designs in Silhouette Studio: it's a good idea to space the rhinestones pretty close together. This will make the Bling Anything material less noticeable once it's applied to the surface - which could be a tumbler, a car window, a bug, a wall, a wood sign, pretty much anything!
Go ahead and cut your rhinestone template and pour your stones on top.
Use the brush to spread them into place. Then use the transfer sheet to pick up the rhinestones - just like you normally would.
This is where you would usually place the stones onto a shirt and apply heat.
BUT when making rhinestone decals you're going to press the rhinestone design onto the Bling Anything material[4] using an iron or heat press. Place a piece of Bling Anything onto a flat surface with the shiny side up, dull side down.
Then place the rhinestone design on top...still on the transfer material.
Sandwich the whole thing between a Teflon sheet on your heat press and apply medium pressure and heat at 325 for 20 seconds.
Then flip the decal over and press for 10 more seconds from the back - still through the Teflon sheet.
After you have pressed, remove the carrier sheet from the top of the rhinestones leaving them behind on the Bling Anything material.
Grab your scissors and trim off the excess Bling Anything as close to the edge of the rhinestone design as possible.
Now carefully peel off the backing to expose the adhesive then apply the rhinestone decal wherever you want!
As I mentioned I wanted to see how well the stones and the Bling Anything adhesive would stand up to pretty harsh use so I put them on a mug that will be hand washed put in the dishwasher. Be sure to wait 24 hours to let the adhesive material cure before washing.
I'm happy to report the mug came out of the dishwasher looking exactly like it did when it went in. I would still recommend you gently hand-wash any rhinestone mugs, tumblers or glasses, but I was thrilled to know the Bling Anything Material[5] could stand up to the dishwasher!
PS: Don't worry - I'm doing this placement with a lot of rhinestones for testing purposes and will not be using this mug to drink!! I would suggest if you want to put rhinestones on a mug that they NOT be anywhere near where you're mouth will be touching.
